A Maui Vacation

In case you didn't already know, I love to travel. My most recent trip was to Maui in early May.  My aunt randomly called me in early January and asked if I wanted to go with her and her husband to Maui because she had a business trip. Of course I said "yes". Who wouldn't want a free trip to Hawaii? I was born in Hawaii and I was very excited to go back. Anyway, I called my boyfriend, Andy, and told him we would be going to Hawaii in May and he was overjoyed. He had never been to Hawaii and it had been almost ten years since I had gone back to visit so I could not wait to show him where I was born.

Finally, the day arrived to take off on our Hawaiian adventure. Holy long plane ride (we live in Florida). We flew alone because my aunt and uncle live in Boise so we met them at the airport. After getting our luggage and rental car we set off to find our new home for the week found on VRBO. I highly recommend using this site instead of trying to book a hotel on Maui. Although it may be a tad more expensive, you get  way more bang for your buck and nothing is cheap in Hawaii anyway.

So, the four of us pull up to the Makena Surf Condos and all we could say was, "WOW". In other words, it did not disappoint. We rented a 2 bedroom/ 2 bathroom condo with a beach view, but what we received was beyond expectations. Not only did we get everything we asked for, we also had access to our own private beach and views of the surrounding islands, Lanai and Molokini, from our balcony.

Every morning we ate breakfast on the balcony, then went down to the private beach and snorkeled or went paddle-boarding. Right in front of the condo was some of the islands best snorkeling. In fact, several tour boats would be out every morning with tourists snorkeling.

One of my favorite things we did was ziplining in the West Maui Mountains. The views up there were amazing. You could see everything from the North Shore to South Maui. It was just beautiful. If you are ever in Maui and want to zipline, I highly recommend Flyin' Hawaiian Zipline. This was Andy's first time zipling and Flyin' Hawaiian was by far the best zipline course I've ever been on. It's definitely worth the price. You go on 7 lines and the last one is about a mile long and you can reach speeds of 70 mph! Not to mention their quality of service is suburb and your safety is their main concern.

On our last day in Maui, Andy and I went to Lahaina which is in West Maui. We stayed the night there alone together since it was our last night on the island. We stayed at the Hyatt Regency in Ka'anapali. It was a very nice resort. It was on the beach and close to all the touristy things in Lahaina. It wasn't Makena Surf Condos though, you can't beat having your own private beach and breakfast with a view every morning. Quiet beaches are rare in Maui since it is a year round tourist destination. However, the particular night we checked into the Hyatt, there wasn't anyone on the beach at all. Andy and I arranged for a late dinner so we could walk on the beach at sunset since no one was on it. After walking about 30 feet onto the beach Andy stops walking and I turn around and he proposed! How romantic is that?! I got engaged in Hawaii, which is so fitting since I was born there.

Maui did not disappoint I already want to go back. If you ever plan to go to Maui or any Hawaiian island don't go without taking a guide book called Maui Revealed or whichever island Revealed. It is written by a couple who have lived there and know the ins-and-outs of the entire island. This guide book is what we refer to as "The Blue Bible" and you will too. We never left the condo without it.

I hope you enjoyed the tale of my adventure in Maui and hopefully received some pointers too!
